I have always been passionate about art and creating original paintings. In particular, portraits and nature, using oil, acrylic, and mixed media. I was born in Scotland but have lived and worked in England most of my life. I studied chemistry and chemistry of paint before starting a business formulating and supplying specialist paint, particularly for glass packaging.
After my working career I took up art initially concentrating mainly on acrylics, as this had been a large part of my background in industry. My passion for playing with different materials and media has allowed me to create works of art that are truly one-of-a-kind. Each piece is infused with a sense of energy,
reflecting my deep love for experimentation, which has probably been a result of my laboratory background. My enthusiasm for art will inspire your imagination, whether you are looking for a vibrant landscape, a portrait, an abstract piece or an evocative still life.
I aim to create expressive artwork that contains movement and commands attention of the viewer. To do this, I try to use a wide range of materials and textures, with particular interest in metallic pigments, texturing agents, contrasting gloss against matt finishes and tactile features to bring my paintings to life.
My work is not restricted to particular style or subject but inspired by vibrant colours such as art of the Scottish colourist, Joan Eardley and David Hockney. My palate is not limited to these artist and I also have an interest in the art of masters like Vermeer, DaVinci, Joules Bastion Lapage etc and impressionist work and I try to bring some elements of these into my paintings.
